The Gulf Oil Spill has been a major hazard. Its been nearly three weeks since the Gulf of Mexico has been filled with oil spill. To control this situation, you can help by donating hair, which will be used to create booms and floating mats to soak up the oil.

The Gulf Oil Spill was an accident that occurred on April 20, 2010. A drilling rig exploded near the Louisiana coast and crude oil began to leak since then. There are comprehensive efforts being carried out to prevent the oil from spreading too deep.

Matter of Trust, a San Francisco-based environmental nonprofit organization is collecting hair clippings from salons to help contain the oil spill. It is collecting hair donations from anyone and everyone: salons, groomers, wool farmers and individuals to make hair booms.

It plans to take clipped hair, fur and wool and then stuff it into hosiery and other nylon containers and turn them into oil mats and booms. According to them, the naturally absorbent properties of hair follicles, marshaled together, can be used to circle and contain oil spills.

Your hair can help the Gulf Coast cleanup effort! So, help in spreading the word about hair donations to control the Gulf Oil Spill.
