Emmanuel Noel is a master stylist who has over sixteen years of experience in hair care. He hails from France, studied hairstyling in England and went on to work for L’oreal and Vidal Sassoon. His style combines both Latin and Anglo-Saxon influences he learned in his native France, as well as an English influence while studying at Tony & Guy and Vidal Sassoon. Due to his enormous experience and creativity, he has developed a style which he is able to customize to suit each of his client’s requirements.

We featured Emmanuel at his salon – Atelier Emmanuel on one of the first episodes of The Cutting Edge Hair show. In the episode, he focused on layered haircuts and Texturizing Hair Using Thinning Shears. He only used a few hair shears, stressed that lot of haircuts are good but unfinished, and that texturizing can help finish your haircut.

Emmanuel revealed two techniques for achieving texturized hair:

Piquetage Technique, wherein you start by holding the hair with one hand and hold the scissors with the other hand and go into the hair with the scissors. It is necessary to hold the hair shears parallel and not perpendicular to the direction of hair, otherwise excess hair would be removed.

Finger Technique, wherein you need to wrap a section of hair around your index finger and lock it in place with the thumb. At this point, you need to hold the shears parallel to the direction of the hair and use the tips to cut the hair.

He said that layering hair can create problems and texturizing hair can fix those problems. He suggested on using thinning shears, razors or scissors to texturize and also gave a few really valuable tips. The one that appealed to me the most was, “Lots of stylists get into the habit of texturizing at one or a few angles. Don’t limit yourself. Try texturizing at several different angles to get the result you are looking for.”

While discussing his passion for hairstyling, Emmanuel said that the main reason he opened Atelier Emmanuel was that he wanted to, create a salon environment which emboldens everyone to deepen their craft. He is an exclusive carrier of GHD hair products. The services offered in his salon are:

HAIR

MASSAGE

TANNING

NAILS

WAXING
